Carbon Wallet: More Rewarding Experience with New Barcode Function

Carbon Wallet has launched the new barcode scanning function to help brands identify products being recycled, while providing users with extra coupons and Carbon Wallet Points.

Using data collected through the barcode scanning function, FMCG and retail brands can learn about insights on what, where, and when their product packages are recycled, providing much-needed visibility into recycling habits and behavioral insights of consumers, which helps brands devise new ideas for targeted marketing. As Carbon Wallet’s eco-conscious users scan barcodes on packages when submitting recycling records, Carbon Wallet connects FMCG brands and consumers to contribute towards a greener future.

For FrieslandCampina’s FRISO®, one of the first brands using this barcode analytics function, this marks exciting progress. “Carbon Wallet is revolutionising our consumer sustainability rewarding programme by extending its coverage to different regions in Hong Kong,” shares Leona Wong, Head of Corporate Affairs at FrieslandCampina Hong Kong. “The App gives us invaluable information to understand more about our consumers’ recycling behaviour in Hong Kong and helps make the sustainability rewarding programme better fit consumers’ needs. We look forward to deeper collaboration on FrieslandCampina HK’s ongoing sustainability journey!

With new waste management policies like the updates of the producer responsibility scheme (PRS) on the horizon, Carbon Wallet is primed to future-proof sustainability models. PRS’ measures for consumer product packaging may include provision of rebates for consumers, with barcodes used as a way of verification. With its new barcode function, Carbon Wallet’s reward platform will provide a useful infrastructure for the industry to jointly advance this cause.
