A more digitalised and automated warehouse can help streamline logistics operations and boost productivity. That’s why MTR Corporation has introduced the autonomous mobile robot (AMR) to its logistics centre!
MTR Corporation’s Materials and Stores team – Enzo Leung and KW Cheung, collaborated with Geek+, a global leader in robotic solutions for logistics to bring AMRs to the logistics centre. Today, these clever robots help automate stock movement and streamline daily operations.
Here’s how:
· When staff work on an order, instead of walking around to pick up individual items, AMRs will lift the shelf carrying the required item and swiftly bring it to the workstation. The same goes for replenishment of stock, too! AMRs help eliminate the time spent on this repetitive activity.
· AMRs glide along the floor in the space underneath shelving units, so the shelves can be placed closer together. The team has been able to optimise layout and increase usable storage space by 10%!
· AMRs keep track of inventory and know where everything is, removing human error from the process.
Since going live in April 2023, the positive impact of AMRs has been consistently observed. They have definitely facilitated a smoother workflow and higher productivity!
