MTR Corporation’s homegrown innovative solution iSPS, the Integrated Speed & Position Supervision System, was chosen as a case study for the World Economic Forum’s Automotive in the Software-Driven Era Initiative and has been recognised in the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva in 2022. iSPS can reduce incidents arising from road-rail interface obstruction and train operations.
iSPS is a unique integrated digital solution created from an operator’s perspective for improving railway operational safety. By equipping trains with GPS receiver, RFID reader, and LTE technologies for real time monitoring, as well as integrating positioning and video analytic technologies with existing railway systems, iSPS could provide visual and audio alerts to train operators on various issues to ensure the safety of railway operations. Since the installation of the system, Light Rail has experienced 58% reduction on selected incidents including conflicting train movements, train contact, and platform related incidents.
